From Pot Wash to Chef Patron
Alex’s journey in hospitality started at just 12 years old, washing pots at the Dudley Arms. From those early days, he worked his way through every role in the kitchen, building the skills, work ethic and passion that would go on to shape his entire career.
At 32, Alex took over The Mill in Stokesley. Fourteen years on, that one restaurant has grown into The Mill Group — now six distinctive hospitality businesses under his lead: The Mill, il mulino, Hood, Mill Cottage, Industry Breakfast & Diner, and the newest addition, The Spread Eagle.

Alex will be bringing his wealth of catering experience to Stokesley Show, with live food demonstrations showing what can be created with great local produce. It’s a brilliant opportunity to meet one of the driving forces behind Stokesley’s own food scene, right on our showground — and to see first-hand the passion that’s taken him from a pot wash to leading six of the town’s best-loved hospitality businesses.
